Yes you may have noticed that today’s newer websites have less clicking and far more scrolling. This trend has been influenced of course by mobile devices especially smart phones. We are almost at a point where we, web designers, are designing websites for phones and tablets and then adjusting the design and code to desktop. This is going to be one of the most popular trends in 2015.
The homepage especially has become a landing page where each element is a way to either give information or redirect to a specific page. It is almost a duplication of the navigation bar but with a better visual impact.
While scrolling, elements and sections can come into place dynamically creating a nice visual appeal and keeping the visitor interested and “entertained”.
Though having lots of pages is necessary for good organic search engine optimization, having less pages (but longer pages) by allowing for scrolling is an option that is favored by the end user.
So we are back to decide what is best for you: Pleasing the search engines or pleasing your visitors. As always you have to find a fine balance.
We, at Business Website Center, believe that you can have both:
1) Scrolling pages with interesting moving elements that tell a story or convey a clear message while keeping the visitor watching.
2) Having numerous pages each dedicated to a specific subject matter and optimized for that topic.
Again a good web designer should be able to guide you through the multiple choices available and make recommendations that work well for your unique situation, your business type and support your message and marketing efforts.
