The most important pages to have on your website

It goes without saying that you know your business needs a website, it should be responsive to mobile devices, it needs to be full of good SEO optimized content, and it needs to be easy to navigate. The majority of those things should be handled by your web development company, save for maybe the content.

The content in most cases will be your job because no amount of research will ever amount to the fact that you are the expert in what you do, and nobody knows what you do better than you do. Despite this, many of our clients often struggle with where to start when they are developing their content. Here’s some help. These are the most important pages to have on your website:

1. The Home Page – Home Pages are obviously the most important because they are usually the first thing that a customer sees. They have to look great, give the potential customer a quick snapshot of everything that you have to offer, and they have to direct the user in the direction they want to go as quickly as possible. Many try to start with the home page because it is the most important, but you should actually save the home page for last, or almost last. It’s hard to show a great snapshot of what your website is, when you haven’t created the rest of the website. Once you have all of your other pages created, and you know what you want the user to do, it’s much easier to know exactly what should be on your homepage.

2. Contact Page – The contact page is the next most important page to have on your site. It must be very easy for your potential customers to contact you in case they have any questions, or they want to make a purchase. If you can get them to contact and connect with one of your actual employees, you’ve got a much higher chance of closing a deal. You will need to know what information to ask of the users ahead of time so that you have everything you need to follow up with them. Text should be easy on this page, it’s just your contact information, but think carefully about what fields the user should fill out so that you are at the greatest advantage without making them feel like they are giving too much information to somebody they don’t know.

3. Product Pages – In the case of your products, unless you only have one product, you will probably need many pages. You need to have all of the information about your product be easy to find so that the customer can see why your product is so great and why they need it. This is your chance to build value with your customer since they are on your website and not talking to someone face to face. It also builds trust with users who are more likely to want to do research, since you are providing them with an easy means. All that’s left is for them to head to your contact page so that they can tell you they want it.

4. About – The About Us page is probably the first page you should concentrate on writing. It should be the easiest since you know your own story and why you are in your industry, better than anyone. It builds trust with customers to be able to see who you are, how much experience you have, and why you do what you do. Some customers need to have a certain level of trust before they make a purchase and this is one way to do it.

5. Other – Other common pages that aren’t always necessary, but are always great to have, are pages with customer testimonials, a frequently asked questions section, and photo or video galleries. All of these pages add extra value to your site, both for search engine optimization purposes and for anyone checking out your site. They are able to get a more complete picture of who your business is and what you stand for.

These are the most important pages to build content for. Once you’ve built all of these, you will have provided your customers with everything they need to educate themselves on you and your products, and Google will probably be pretty happy with you too.
