Chrome & Google Announcement about new HTTPS requirements
By

website design santa rosa

A SSL certificate is a security program you purchase normally from your hosting provider. It enables the HTTPS to work on your site and ensures that all communications from your pages to your server are encrypted and protected. If you are unsure if your site has one, type in your domain name in your browser using https://YourDomainNameHere.com.

Until recently, the HTTPS was required for all websites accepting online payments.

The big changes is that, effective October 2017, Chrome (version 62) will show a “NOT SECURE” warning when users enter text in a form on an HTTP page, and for all HTTP pages in Incognito mode. This new warning is part of Chrome’s long term plan to mark all pages served over HTTP as “not secure”. This affects websites that have a contact form, password protected pages, registration page or any sort of <input> tags in their code.

Of course, the last thing you want is have this scary “NOT SECURE” message when your clients or prospects find you online.

The solution is simple:

  1. Purchase a SSL certificate with your hosting provider.
  2. Depending on your website type, some coding adjustments may be necessary. That is especially true if you have a content management system as some of the links may need to be edited to be https instead of http.

We can help you at Business Website Center make this upgrade to your site regardless of its size, formats, coding structure, or platform. Give us a call at 707-794-9999 (California Time).
