Top 3 tips to improve your website’s appearance

If your website was built in the past 3 years by a professional web designer, it should not need a complete redesign. In many instances, a few changes will transform a site that may appear tired or dated into a breathtaking website. Today we will focus on the most important 3 changes you or your web design team can make to your site to make it more appealing.

=1= Update the images:

High quality photos or graphics speak a thousand words. It is now very affordable to buy quality images for your website. Use photos to render a specific feeling you want visitors to have when they visit your website. The images should be beautiful but meaningful. If you are in the service business (dentist, contractor, carpet cleaner, etc.) focus more on the end result. For instance, if you own a carpet cleaning company, show what the rugs will look like after they hire you to shampoo it. The same is true for dentist; show a smiling person with beautiful teeth. The images should be of high resolution. It should be blurry only when it is part of the effect and style of the image, not because the photo was badly taken. In many instances, buyers want to see themselves in the photos. Think of the old but still relevant Just Do It! campaign by Nike. It was focused on people in action pushing themselves to the next level of fitness. The shoes were secondary.

=2= Update fonts:

The right font can set the tone for your site. Remember that your website represents your company 24/7/365. If you want a warm nurturing feeling, serif fonts work best though you have to be careful that the text is still readable. If you want to portrait a sense of accuracy and high professionalism, a non serif is generally better. Nowadays a website can have any font it wants. A few years ago, only a handful of fonts were considered web safe. Is your site still using Times Roman or Papyrus? These fonts will date you and not in a good way.

=3= Update the colors:

Thanks to the great computer monitors everybody can now afford, you can adjust the various colors of your website to be more in tune with your branding, customer’s preferences, and emotion you want to set for your visitors. Colors have meaning. We invite you to visit our prior post that speak in more details about color choices for your website and marketing (see here).

Easy 3 steps… Updates images, fonts, and colors and you will increase the visual quality of your website. In our next blog, we will discuss the top 3 steps to improve the search engine optimization of your site.
